Liquid Lights

Let’s get shimmery this season with golds, silvers, bronzes and chromes! Futuristic metallic hues are here to enlighten your luxury swimwear collections and branding.

Go for gold this season, or silver or bronze or chrome! Glossy and futuristic metallic hues will be the crowning glory in your current collection and beyond into S/S 24. As the world becomes more tech-obsessed and brands explore the metaverse, so too does consumer attraction to hyper-bright and high-tech colours. Whether they’re iridescent, super shiny or chromatic, metallics offer a timeless appeal with a luxurious attitude, and brands are experimenting with this key trend.

BRANDING

Just like animals, people are also highly attracted to shiny objects. Metallics are an effective tool to catch your target consumers’ eye within branding and also position your brand as innovative in the industry. In recent years there has been a surge of brands creating graphics which appear as liquid metal, with bubble-like text that is both futuristic and fun. Iridescent and mirror-effect packaging also adds a touch of luxe, as well as providing consumers with a form of creative escapism and peek into the future. Foiling, a technique in which you print foil onto another material, is a more subtle method to add a personalised touch to packaging, without breaking the budget. Additionally, clear packaging with a metallic finish subconsciously indicates that your brand is open, honest and transparent yet still avant-garde and plush, allowing you to connect with a broader demographic.

FABRIC & PRODUCT

Whilst silver and gold have always remained popular with consumers, in 2022 these colours can feel a little ‘been there, done that’. Experimenting with coloured metallics, such as dusty pinks, extraterrestrial jades, and bright cobalt blues can add some opulent delight to your products and instil an added unique quality. In swimwear, metallics have the advantage of creating a ‘wet’ look, with shades such as rose, copper and bronze creating a barely-there, nude effect. Playful chromatic pastels offer a more whimsical and youthful approach to metallics, maintaining an ethereal and expensive look without taking itself as seriously. For those who aren’t ready to shine from head to toe, you can embrace the trend by incorporating hardware features such as clasps, buckles and buttons in unique metallic shades which match your brand colour palette.
